Cooking is usually portrayed as an elaborate art. But, in addition to the artistry, food is often created by chefs venturing out to craft some of the most unusual flavors that most consumers crave.

Hello and welcome! My name is Julie and I do the cooking, writing, eating, and photography. I’m a chemist and a food enthusiast with an appetite for almost anything and the energy to experiment with whatever that is in front of me.

My style of cooking is improv and I usually don’t follow recipes because I’m always experimenting and improvising in the kitchen to make the recipes my perfect anecdotes to cure hunger pains. I believe that your kitchen is a place to be creative and productive. I love venturing out of my comfort zone to make things that I normally would never think of making. There are so many delicious and fundamental ingredients in this world that we do not know about. I love to try new ingredients as well as combinations that sometimes make my jaw drop. It’s fun and I try not to worry about the failures because I try to learn from them to find my creativity. Food is about the experience it brings to you and to those who you share it with, so, no one can say what is right or wrong.

    Very nice site. Exceptional photography. I’m just learning how to use my camera, can I ask what kind of camera you’re using and how you’re getting that lighting? You’re photos have the beautiful tinge of sunshine that I would love to learn.

      Thank you! I use a T3i Canon DSLR with a 100mm f/2.8 macro lens which is what enables me to take such great photos with the right ratios. I’m still getting used to it but google has been helping me a lot with how to take the photos and how the lighting should be. I learned that natural sunlight is the best and uv lens protectors help with unwanted glares.

        I assumed you were a professional photographer in a studio.

        When you say Google’s helped you, do you mean searching for advise, or is there a certain site? I purchased a book digital photography I’m working my way thought.

        Oh no, I’m far from a pro. I just searched for advise online such as typing “lighting tips for food photography” or if I would go to Barns and Noble bookstore I would go to the photography section and just spend my afternoons there when I have nothing to do. But google was my best bet. Whenever you want to figure out something small such as ISO or f stops I would just google it.

        Not so far from a pro, check out professional photography and look at the pics you’ve been posting. These’s a new career option out there for you.

        Well, I will use Google more often. I have several things which need to be photographed today, so it’s back to F-stops and ISO. 🙂

  16. I think we share both an ethos and a name! I love your simple-is-good approach to food; it’s never worth getting all stressed out over a meal or a dish if it detracts from the occasion of eating it. I’d rather have a tuna salad sandwich with a good friend than the most elaborate, beautiful, delicious concoctions made by master chefs in an atmosphere of worrying about whether my manners are good enough or the other people at the table will think I’m boring or whether I’ve worn the right outfit for the occasion!

    And do I read it right that your name is Wold? (My maiden name. Now one of my two middle names.) Not so common. Guess we must be thirteenth-cousins-once-removed or something! 😀
